Marriage takes work

Marriage takes work:
Marriage is something you work on together, build together, and grow together. Marriage is a gift from God to bless people in many ways and on many levels. As you give your love and life to another person in marriage you are acting like Jesus who gave his love and his life for you. As you forgive those who have hurt you (by word or deed or whatever), you will be forgiven by God for the wrong you yourself have done to others (Matthew 6:15).

Life is hard. Going through life with someone you love, trust and know that they are as committed to you as you are to them, makes life more bearable. While dating, your spouse was to become your best friend and biggest supporter as you also became their best friend and supporter. The effort you put into your relationship will be well spent and bring you benefits for life.

Children need both a mother and a father. This is also the way God created the world. We all make decisions that are not the best for our children. God will hold us accountable for each of these also; just as He will bless us as we make good decisions. The point is that we do not have to keep making poor decisions. We can learn to make better decisions about all areas of our life. Start today!

One of the final things I tell people in the wedding ceremonies I perform is that as the two of you come into this marriage uniting you as husband and wife, and as you this day affirm your faith and love for one another, I would ask that you always remember to cherish each other as special and unique individuals, that you respect the thoughts, ideas and suggestions of one another. Be able to forgive, do not hold grudges, and live each day that you may share it together – as from this day forward you shall be each other’s home, comfort and refuge, your marriage strengthened by your love and respect.

Now go, and learn to live in love with each other for the rest of your lives together.
