Time Lost

Time Lost
A Chuck Weiskircher Poem © 5/15/2014

Time is one thing that is gone when it is lost
You cannot go back and get it once it is tossed.
Some people think that more is made each day
Or that once they have some they can make it stay.

The truth is that time only moves forward
It stays in the channel never moving shoreward.
You can stand in the channel as it goes by
But cannot stop it no matter how hard you try.

You close your fist on this moment in time
But it oozes through your fingers like some slime.
Your mind remembers what you did this day
As you had fun and with children took time to play.

But only in photos can you capture this time
But your photo is as quiet as painted up mime.
Videos are better yet not the same
And only show you your past frame by frame.

The lesson in this that I want to pass on
Is to value your time by starting at dawn.
The sooner you grasp the eternal value of time
The sooner living your life will become sublime.

The longer I live the more I think it is true
The true value of our time is recognized by few.
We live and laugh and work and play
Not realizing the amazing value of each day.

So here I want to pass on some helpful advice
Treat every moment you have as worth a higher price.
You only live each moment once and then it is over
So don’t waste time looking for the four leaf clover.

At the end of your life I hope you have lived well
So that upon your good memories you can then dwell.
Try to remember to live at peace with all and reduce your strife.
And hold onto the joy of a loving and forgiving husband and wife.
