Baby 5 2014
A Chuck Weiskircher Poem © 6/4/2014

Life begins when we are born
We are not yet care worn.
We all have needs our mothers meet
And some relatives we will great.

We grow up soon and start to talk
Our parents then take us for a walk.
We learn to play games and sometimes we win
And our religious parents tell us not to sin.

Someday we will have a sister or brother
For comfort we will all run to our mother.
For justice we know to go to Dad
Who punishes those who have been bad.

We go through school trying to learn
And good advice we usually spurn.
Graduation day looms large before us
We may even be part of a chorus.

We get a job to earn a living
And carve up our turkey on Thanksgiving.
Then too soon comes our wedding day
The minister teaches us what to say.

Together we live life having fun
Knowing our single life is now done.
Then the pressure is on to have a child
And we hope they will not grow up wild.

And then it happens a new life is born
Perhaps it should be welcomed with a horn.
The lessons are many you can see
The first child born, that was me.
