Bearing Fruit

Bearing Fruit
A Chuck Weiskircher poem © 6/5/2014

God has called us all to bear fruit
You cannot do this and be a mute.
Everyone will watch what you do
Deciding if what you say is true.

God is with us and will do his work
As long as his will we do not shirk.
The fruit in our lives is actually his
No one studies for his pop quiz

We produce his fruit every day
By the things we do or we say.
Love and joy, peace and goodness
God will produce in his fullness.

Kindness, gentleness and self-control
Wells up within us from our soul.
This fruit is not just for us to enjoy
It is not given to us like a birthday toy.

Sure the fruit of the Spirit pleases us
But the benefit we get is simply a plus.
It is ours he says to give away
As he will create more every day.

We share our love for God with others
Even with our sisters and brothers
We know those in the family of God
Are not yet perfect but slightly flawed.

So as we live our life let us do our best
To share our fruit without getting stressed.
God looks down upon all we are doing
To see the life of love we are pursuing.
