Speaking the Truth in Love
Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
So then, let us all stop falling for the craftiness of deceitful people but let us become mature and discerning and cling strongly to speaking the truth as God has revealed it to us and this added with our love for people. Let us act more like Jesus.
Speaking only truth is brutality.
People call some Christians “Bible Thumpers” because of the way they thump people over the head with the truth of God’s word without also sharing God’s love for them. God’s grace is left out of their teachings. Jonah was one such person. He hated the Ninevehites and wanted them wiped out. His message was “40 days and then God will destroy you”. He did not offer them God’s forgiveness if they repented. They did repent and stopped doing evil and God forgave them. Jonah was upset by God’s grace towards them; even when God told him there were 120,000 children who did not know right from wrong in the city.
Speaking only Love without truth is hypocrisy.
There are some who call themselves Christians who proclaim that “All roads lead to God and Heaven”. They fail to tell people that there is a day of judgment coming when those who do not believe in Jesus will be destroyed. They lead people into a false sense of security. They tell people “You can be forgiven everything you ever do wrong” without telling them they must stop doing wrong and turn away from evil. Some even participate in acts of evil with them.
Speaking truth in love offers eternal life.
The message is that if you repent of your wrong doing and believe Jesus died and was raised from the dead, you will be saved. The truth is that you have sinned against God but God loves you and wants you to become one of his children. God is willing to forgive you if you will repent and believe in Jesus as your savior. Jesus taught us how to speak the truth in love.
