Submission to God. What does that mean?

Salvation 5 2014
Submission to God. What does that mean?
James 4:7
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

No one can resist the Devil without first submitting to God. We do this by obeying God’s word.
The word “Submit” is translated to English from the Greek word hupotasso. The hupo means “under” and the tasso means “to arrange.” The meaning is used in Greek literature as the military term for placing one’s self under the authority of the supreme commander. To arrange troop divisions from the authority of the least to the greatest. For Christians it means that each individual is to place themselves under the supreme authority of God. We are to submit to God as we arrange ourselves under the command of the Divine rather than the terrestrial authorities. This is actually a process we go through by daily degrees of submission and surrendering our own will to that of our heavenly fathers. We must make a conscious choice to humble ourselves with contrite heats.

When we do this the Holy Spirit is able to conform us into the image of Christ who himself gave us the ultimate example of submission as he submitted himself to God’s will by dying on the cross so that we could have forgiveness of our sins and eternal life. As we submit to God daily we grow spiritually. Each time we are offered a choice of actions we are tested to see if we will continue to submit ourselves to God’s will or not. God’s knows what is best for us and he desires to give it to us. It is by our choices to submit ourselves that God is then free to bless our lives abundantly. Daily we receive the blessings of his grace and mercy. As we continually submit ourselves to God we are strengthened and able to resist the Devil and he will flee from tempting us. Unfortunately the Devil will return eventually to try tempting us again. Our only hope is in our submission to God.
